Fees and framework

There are two frameworks.

The single case.

You call because something has happened. What I do and what it costs is fixed in writing before I do anything.

The standing mandate agreed in advance.

You instruct me before anything happens: to be reachable, to know the records, to know the route. I hold at most ⟨N⟩ such mandates at any one time. A single person cannot hold more without breaking the deadline promised.

No amount is stated on this page.

A price without a case is an assertion. I give you a figure when I know what it is about — in writing, before I start, and not afterwards.

What I charge by.

Medical services are billed under the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). Where the fee rate departs from it, that is fixed in writing beforehand, in the individual case, with service, multiplier and amount — as Section 2 GOÄ requires. Services that are not medical treatment — availability, preparation, lectures, teaching, an expert opinion for third parties — are placed in a separate agreement and on a separate invoice.

Travel, accommodation and time on site.

These are billed by actual expenditure and capped in amount beforehand. Waiting time and downtime are working time; how they are valued is stated in the agreement.

Advance payment.

For a planned assignment outside Germany I usually ask for an advance payment or for a written assumption of costs. That has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the experience of this field.

Assumption of costs.

If you are not the payer, I need a written undertaking from the body that pays: with name, address, amount and period of validity.

VAT.

Medical treatment is exempt from VAT. Expert opinions, lectures, teaching and advice without a treatment relationship are not. What applies in your case is stated in the agreement and on the invoice.

What I do not bill, and from whom I take no money.

I receive no remuneration for recommending anyone, and I pay none for being recommended. No hospital, no air operator, no assistance company and no intermediary pays me anything. If I name a hospital or a transport to you, I earn nothing from it. I agree no remuneration that depends on the outcome. No remuneration for referral.

Termination.

You can end a mandate at any time. I can end it if I can no longer contribute professionally or if trust is absent — never in the middle of an acute situation, and never without naming you a successor. What happens to the records afterwards is stated under Confidentiality.
